Religion:

Chapter 7: We Are Called to Reconciliation The vocabulary words are: reconciliation (p. 83) and grace (p.87). We will be practicing the receiving of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. St. Joseph Parish First Penance is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.

Math:

Chapter 4: Money. We will solve problems by using data from a picture, and begin to explore how to make change. We will review what we've learned about money in Chapter 4. The Chapter 4 TEST is scheduled for Thursday, January 8, 2009.

SKIP COUNTING: All year the students will be learning to skip count or reviewing what they've learned. Skip counting helps when doing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division fast facts. Students will learn to think and visualize in groups. They will learn to use and recognize valuable number patterns. We will learn how to skip count by 9s: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 80, 99, 108.

S. Studies & Science

Social Studies: Unit on Landforms and Water on earth.

Health Class will take the place of Science Class for the second marking period.

Phonics

Long E made with ey or y: Chimney, monkey, donkey, ninety, twenty. All of our spelling words this week have the ey or y at the end of them.

Grammar

Unit 2: NOUNS and Descriptive Writing. A noun is a word that names a person, place, or thing. We will learn how to form the plural of nouns ending in a consonant and Y. We will also learn that some nouns change their spelling to name more than one: man/men, woman/women, child/children, mouse/mice, foot/feet, tooth/teeth. We will cover singular and plural possessive nouns. These nouns show who or what owns something: Examples-The bird's song is beautiful (singular possessive) The mice's feet are tiny! (plural possessive). We'll review the proper punctuation in writing a friendly letter (comma after the greeting and closing . We will have our Noun Unit TEST on Tuesday, January 13, 2009.
